Craig's Henderson #634 L00

Henderson guitars are certainly not the most expensive hand-made acoustic guitars. At about $5,000 (plus or minus) when new, their price pales in comparison to some other small-luthier-built guitars. They are not even the most well-known; but Eric Clapton owns one, and so does Tommy Emmanuel, Peter Rowan and Grammy winner Gillian Welch. Doc Watson played his often. I learned about Wayne from my brother, we attended a concert on the Blueridge Parkway where Wayne was performing. I had never heard of him but ended up backstage talking with him. I told where I lived and he said, “hey, we’re gonna play there soon”. Before he arrived in town with an ensemble of musicians celebrating the history of old time and bluegrass music, I had read the book “Clapton’s Guitar”. So when he arrived in San Luis Obispo, I found him before the concert and told him I was coming to visit him at Christmas time. My brother and I drove to Mouth of Wilson and I ordered an L00 with Nick Lucas appointments, Wayne seemed thrilled with this request. Wayne doesn’t refuse any requests but he doesn’t necessarily make a guitar for anyone either. There are stories of people who have waited 10-12 years. I figured if I asked for a dreadnaught I wouldn’t get him too interested. It took me 6 years to get my guitar and I love it.
